Do we need salary more than 50k for Senior Software Engineer?

Post by csr1234 » Tue Jul 10, 2018 4:57 am

Hay Guys,

I recently heard from couple of my friends from UK saying that, in order to get Tier 2(General) visa you should have offer letter with salary more than 50K/anum.

What happens if I get an offer less than 50k? Will the restricted COS itself rejected? or We get COS but when we apply visa, will visa get rejected?

Please do share If you have any such experiences or thoughts on this.

I think your friend might have meant the difficulty nowadays to get COS with less salary. I hope you are aware that restricted COS is allocated based on points calculated depending on your salary and RLMT. In the past 8 months nobody with salary less than 50K ~ 50 pts [30 for slaray + 20 from successful RLMT] have got restricted COS approved.

PFB GOV web link to check the COS allocation stats.

Good thing is government has made few changes to this allocation last month [PFB the links for the same]. So people are hoping for the points to come down. To give you a picture of this past 8 months crisis, I am myself waiting for a COS since december 2017 and like me there are hundreds of ppl on this forum.

Thank you so much for the information provided.

I just check the minimum salary requirement in the blow official documentation was given as 32K for the role which I am looking for,

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/immigration ... illed-work

search for keyword: 2136 Programmers and software development professionals.

If that is the case, If my employer is paying more than 32k, lets take 45K and also paying for my maintenance then I will get following,
Salary: 20, COS : 30, English: 10, Maintenance: 10 i.e. total : 70.

So in this case will I get COS and Visa?. Please correct me if I misunderstood anything.

The way to calculate points for the certificate of sponsorship is different than that for the visa, and doesn't include maintenance, english, etc.

It only includes:
Route by which you are eligible for a certificate of sponsorship (your job is on the shortage occupation list, or your job is skilled to the appropriate level and your employer has performed a resident labour market test, etc.)
+
Your salary

I dont know what your role actually entails but some jobs in your code fall on the shortage occupation list:
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/immigration ... ation-list

If it does, then you get a much higher score than those who have to go through a RLMT (20 points), regardless of salary.

The rCoS calculation chart has been shared on numerous occasions in the forums so I would do a quick search here or through the Home Office's Guidance for actual numbers.
