After HSMP JR, now a big win for overseas doctors too

Post by hsmpinuk70 » Wed Apr 30, 2008 12:39 pm

April 2008 has proved to be grossly unlucky for UK goverment - as far as migrants' rights are concerned :D .

First, it was the HSMP JR on 8th April and now the House of Lords have ruled today against an appeal by the government regarding overseas doctors. The House of Lords ruled that the state "was wrong" in issuing guidelines discriminating against overseas graduates, mostly Indians, for employment in its health services.

Hope this teaches them (UK government departments) a BIG lesson!!!

The issue was always the unfair treatment to doctors already within the system and present in UK.

The goverment has the right to implement prospective changes and even BAPIO (which fought the legal battle against the goverment) has welcomed the new changes to the Immigration Rules which now places employment within training categories in NHS under WP rules (employer sponsorship).
