Tier 2 General Visa Extension - Temorary Visa

Hi,

I migrated in the year 2016 to the UK on Tier-2 General visa. My current visa/sponsorship is expiring this November. This sponsorship is for 3 years. I think I have still three months but this is the best time to apply via post as visa processing time says maximum 8 weeks.

Now the twist is that I approached my company for visa/sponsorship extension and they are saying they could only issue a sponsorship one month before the expiry. And they are saying they need to do an employment check which will give me a temporary visa while my new visa being processed.

I completely don't understand what the employment check is for and what is a temporary visa. I just need a 3 years sponsorship so as to apply for 3 years tier-2 visa.

My job comes under shortage occupancy and it is still under shortage occupancy as I just checked it. Also as my understanding and General guidance on Tier-2 visa extension, A resident labour market test is not required for extension application.

Can anyone guide me, my employer is distracted or need help or there is some new process.
