ILR and traffic offence

Post by rajumr » Wed May 21, 2008 3:00 pm

Hello Folks,
I'm completing 5 years of residence (on workpermit + hsmp) in UK this July. My application for ILR should have been pretty straight forward but for a traffic offence that I committed last year.

I have read the other topics on this forum that discussed driving offences. However, most of them dealt with whether the offences would affect ILR. I'm reasonably optimistic about my application as that is the only offence that I have committed and the rest of history is pretty clean (absences within limits, continuous employment, education qualifications from UK, etc.)

There were two charges related to the offence
1. Driving without due care and attention
2. Driving without an authorised supervisor (The person accompanied me didn't have UK licence, but had international licence)

The Magistrate put 3 points on my provisional licence and £100 fine (£75 for #1, £25 for #2).

I passed the driving test 3 months after that incident and have been driving since then without any incident.

I appreciate if any one could please clarify the following
1. What documents do I need to take to PEO regarding the incident ?
2. Does Homeoffice usually want to do 'further checks' on such disclosures?

Is it worth going in person to a PEO to submit my ILR application? or postal application is better?

The reason that I would like to get ILR at the earliest opportunity is that my wife is pretty close to getting a PhD, but the funding is available for "local" students only. The longer it takes to get ILR, the slimmer are her chances
of getting PhD this year.

Appreciate your comments and suggestions.

Thanks
Raju
