Is my language certificate acceptable for naturalization?

Post by csongorintheuk » Tue Nov 27, 2018 12:45 pm

Hi all,

I've done my research, looked through the forums, but I haven't found the answer anywhere. I am not in your hands and truly hope someone will be able to help, or point me to someone who can.

I have a category C English language certification from 2005 that I've done with British council Hungary (Budapest) that I'm looking to use as the language qualification for my naturalization form. (also, I speak perfect English, I've lived and worked here for the past 10 years)

I understand certifications need to come from the approved test and providers list:
https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... uage-tests

This is what it says in the above list:
IELTS SELT Consortium BC HU001 BC Budapest 13/14 Madach Imre ut 1075 Budapest, Hungary Hungary RoW pop-up 1 IELTS (all facets)
My certification details as follows:
Exam Centre: British Council Hungary
Exam System: University of Cambridge ESOL
Exam Date: 2005
and it's an advanced combined (C) English exam.
Furthermore, it is clearly stated that some exams expire within 2 years, but we can still use them if it was accepted when we settled in. Well, mine doesn't have an expiration date and it was accepted at the University of London 10 years ago.

What do you think, is this something that I could potentially use?

Many thanks in advance!

Exam System: University of Cambridge ESOL
ESOL is no longer accepted and has been the case since 12 November 2015.

What a university accepts is vastly different to what HO would accept.

Do you have a UK degree??

Many thanks for your swift and helpful response.

No, I do not have a degree unfortunately. So I'll have to take the test then?

What do you think is the cheapest and easiest test that will satisfy the HO?

I found this test to be just speaking and listening (B1) which is pre-approved for HO.

You need English B1 from an approved HO test provider. Those on the list all cost £150, there is no 'cheaper' option.

Hi mate, you need to do the test again. I have had a b1 which was taken 3 years ago and they did not accept that as it was out of date. It will make your life so much easier and application get done quicker if you just take a test and hand that in
