Im abit gutted as i have little chance of leaving this place

USA - im unskilled and although my girlfriends dad is american (livining ok in the UK) - we both have little chance of getting state side - a country that ive visited many times and love.

Australia - they only want professionals

Caribbean - Love the caribbean - but seems impossible also

Latin America is something that interests me also - due partly to my love of snakes and partly to my girlfriends puerto rican background.

is there anywhere else

ive thought about bermuda, british virgin islands but it all seems impossible still

as you can see

im basically wanting out of the UK and into a warmer country - i love tropical places and although it may seem strange to most.

im just after ideas on other places i could research and visit - with immigration in mind for future

Anywhere in the European Economic Area (EU + Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein) + Switzerland.

That's about 30 countries, at last count. Of course in all but one of them you will need to learn a new language. I believe Finland's quite nice, also Switzerland.

Among the British territories, why not look at Gibraltar, Isle of Man or the Falkland Islands.

Jaj

thank you for your reply

This is quite serious to me - im not your usual person wanting to migrate as i have a few ideas - but am not yet certain where i want to go.

I must admit though - Europe just doesnt interest me anymore.

Im really set on US,Central or south america - its not for the US dream.

its more about what i can do there in my spare time - get involved in the things i really want to do - i.e diving - working with snakes or any other animal, help out in preservation work

any ideas?

thanks

I used to live in gibratler - when i was around 4 years old

it does itnerest me slightly - as my language is fine.

i could dive - although not quite as tropical as i want - and no snakes! ha

Just out of interest mate, how old are you ?

I'm not getting at you here, it's just a question, because believe me when I say that I've been in the same position.

Thats ok my friend.

Im 21 years old.

I want to experience another place - but i fear that if i went travelling without a visa etc - and found a place i loved - after a while id have to return home to this place and would only be able to return for "holidays"

i could not do that

imagine if you went to USA for a few months - you were allowed to work but only for 6 months - 12 months

after that you have to leave - despite your new friends - new job and your love for this new country

it would be pointless

I know that situation because I've been in it, I worked in America for 5 months after I left college and I've been over there quite a few times and had a couple of American girlfriends over the years, it was a very different country when I was working there though, I've been back a few times since and it has changed a lot.

I'm probably going to be looking at a move overseas in the not to distant future anyway because I'm not with a girl who is in the UK on a temp visa and we are planning to marry next year but I'm 5 years older than you are. My best advice to you mate is do a bit of research and get yourself on a career track if you can (if America is your number one destination then you really want to look at medical, accountancy or an IT specialisation). You're still young and all of the avenues are open so just think about what you want to do when you get to your destination.

Another thing to remember is that you don't want to live in the US on minimum wage, it's not like over here, the US government doesn't take extraordinarily good care of it's citizenry and it cares for foreigners even less. There will be all manners of bastards in that country just looking to exploit you and its much easier to fall into a poverty trap in North America than it is in Western Europe.

If you really wanted to I suppose, and you are your lady are serious about this then hypothetically you could get married and she could sort out her status with the Embassy and you would go with her as a legal spouse, but you wouldn't be able to work straight away after you arrive and even when you did find work it would probably be a lot tougher and more competitive than what you're used to.

No worries man, like I said, I've been in the same boat, and to some extent I still am.

And Thailand is a son of a bitch unless you have enough capital to open a bar or something.

Even if you have enough money to open a bar in Thailand, you can only own 49% of the business maximum and the other 51% of the business need to be owned by a citizen of Thailand... so Thailand is not a good option too.

How about Malaysia?

Good food, low-cost living, most of them speak English and there are plenty of snakes and wild lifes (in the jungle that is).

The big thing here it seems is you just do not know where you wish to plant your roots. Having a set plan is essential to any visa in any country. I am from the US and I know that they make it very very difficult for people who have the finances and the future plan and apply only to be put in a waiting path just for approval.
Do your research on what you will do for income first. Just knowing you want to leave where you are but having no "game plan" isn't a good way to go about it. Yes letting others advise you on places doesn't hurt, but in the end, you are the one who will live your life.
At present, the US is having all kinds of issues. Unemployment is rising at an incredible rate. People are losing their houses because they can't afford to keep them. People are forced to choose between food and medicine. I love my country, I just don't like whats happening to it right now.
I wish you all the luck in finding your happiness where ever it may take you.

Save up your account management bonuses and move to Brazil with a 'Permanent Residence Visa’
Given the exchange rate, US$50K is getting cheaper all the time. Go start a diving school or adventure tour trek company .. Brazil rocks, as does Argentina, although it's colder..

.. tempted to do this myself given the last two summers here.

Where to go

Post by Tommo68 » Wed Sep 30, 2009 10:54 am

have you considered Africa? Countries like Ghana which is English speaking. Very stable, needs skilled professionals, has a big middle class population. Ghana s regarded as a success story, sure theres still lots of poverty but theres plenty of good aspects. Other English speaking African countries to consider might be Namibia, Botswana, Zambia and Zim once Mr Mugabe dies.
Plenty of snakes for you. Hot steamy tropical climate. Theres a growing tourist industry in West Africa with countries like Ghana, Togo and Benin hot new destinations. You ve lots of Europeans and Americans of African decent wanting to visit these countries to reconnect with their (deported as slaves) ancestors as well as others.
Don t believe the media representations of Africa as a hopeless continent.
