errors on my schengen visa

Post by lexy » Sat May 31, 2008 11:24 am

hi there :)

i've just been granted a schengen visa for spain. i'm going to barcelona in about 12 days.

i picked up my passport from the agency yesterday, only to realise that my name has been spelt incorrectly (i'm not to concerned about this, it's a small mistake and quite common .. they've made this mistake on plane tickets and boarding passes and it's been fine)
but the passport number on the visa is also wrong, and it's not just one number out, it's a completely different passport number.
on a shengen visa i've had for france, the passport number was out too, but only by one number, incidentally.

i called the agency for advice as soon as i noticed, but i was on hiold for ages then i had to go to work, so i never got to ask them about it.

now it's saturday and they don't open til monday and i'm really worried about travelling on this visa.

can anybody help?

When are you travelling?
Are you a family member of an EU citizen?

What do you mean you picked up the passport "at an agency"? Not from the Spanish embassy?

I would contact the Spanish embassy as soon as possible. They should hopefully be able to correct their mistake.

I believe it is one of the standard procedures for non eu citizen.
If he want's to visit touristic some EU country he has an option of leaving the paperwork for Visa to travel agency.
Travel agency applies to embassy on his behalf so he doesn't have to bother.

i returned my passport to the agency and they said that the spanish embassy have been making a lot of mistakes recently. including putting the wrong photo on somebody's visa

i was told that up to 4 spelling mistakes are allowed. and that the misspelling of my name shouldn't be a problem, it's only one extra letter and a common mistake.

the passport number could be a problem because it's entirely different to mine (not just a typo)

so apparently the embassy only has appointments on thursdays and they will take mine in on thursday to make sure they fix it on the same day.
i took new copies of flights and accommodation details in so that they can see i am traveling next week and that this is urgent.

i will update on thursday when i get my passport back.

the woman at the agency seemed to think that it would be fine.

better to get intouch and ask them to rectify the mistakes as name and passport number are wrong .
You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it.
