I wanted to know if there is a maximum number of days within which one needs to enter UK post grant of visa. Does the 3 year 4 month period start on Date of Grant OR on date of entry ?

The 3 yr 4 month starts at the grant of visa.

Normally they issue the first entry vignette valid for 30 days, but I believe you can ask for that to be extended - I am not totally sure but it makes sense that they would do that.
