Naturalisation Application with Paper DCPR

Post by urmeli » Wed Feb 13, 2019 10:50 am

I'm new here so apologies if this is in the wrong thread, or has been asked before.

I am applying for citizenship, EU citizen with residence since 2011, married to a Brit.

I just found the following in the "AN booklet":
"It will be for you to decide whether to use permanent residence or indefinite leave to remain
to support an application for naturalisation, and based upon your circumstances."

I have the blue booklet with a "Residence documentation" sticker inside that says "Document certifying permanent residence", which I received in November 2018.
So can I apply with this? I am very confused about PR vs. ILR...

Thanks!

Yes you can apply with it as long as it says DCPR.

Thanks!

Now another question...
Regarding the ID to submit: I want to use my German ID card for this (I am also using this for the Life in UK test). I have to keep my passport because I need to travel in the meantime, and I also need the passport so I can apply for new German passports for my children at the embassy in March.

Reading the guidance, the ID card is fine as ID document. However, when I fill in the form, it asks in the section "Your passport" - "Do you have a valid passport?"
If I answer yes, then i have to confirm that "I can provide this passport if required" and it shows up in the list of documents to be submitted. But I don't want to submit it.
If I answer no, then that would be a lie, because I do have a passport?! :?

I am just afraid of being asked to hand over my passport, and I can absolutely not afford to do that. The ID card is not a problem. I have read lots about the new UKVCAS service, but they don't make it very clear if you get to keep your passport.
Any advice on this?

By using UKVCAS you will retain your passport and all other original documents so no need to worry about posting it!
