Absences for ILR application

Hi all,
Could you please help me determine what’s the earliest date I can apply for ILR?
Visa start date: 08/08/2014
Visa end date: 20/07/2019
Entry date to the UK: 31/08/2014

Useful to state what your current visa route to ILR is as rules are different for different visas

As you appear to be on a Tier 2 General based on a post you made in October last year, your residence starts from the visa issue date.

Yes sorry I forgot to mention it’s visa tier 2 general.
So that means I could apply 28 days prior to 08/08/2019?

Also, let’s say I move to another company next month and i’m Issued another visa tier2/BRP, does it change anything regarding the earliest date of application for ILR?

Since you first entered the UK, have you had any absences from the UK? (Required)
This includes any absences however short. Do not include travel to Crown Dependencies.

What is the meaning of "absences" here ?
Does it include holidays?

I was wondering if I had to include an English test certificate in my ILR application?
I have studied in France and have been working in London for 4.5 years under visa tier 2 general.
I provided an English test certificate for my first visa.
I moved to another company and obtained a BRP where I did not have to do an English test.

You need B1 level English obtained through a test provider on the UKVI approved list + Life in the UK test.

Any travel outside UK will be counted as absences.
Absences during the last 5 year qualifying period you are basing your application on.

Ah ok, do I need to show proof of these holidays? (with passport stamps or flight tickets)

I've seen some people provide a letter from their employer, what happens for those who have 2-3 former employers ? are they legally bound to provide such a letter?

No. You only need the letter and your passport, no flight tickets etc.
