First British passport couple of queries

Post by luhpaoli » Mon May 06, 2019 11:29 am

Hi all,
next month my husband and I will apply for our first British passport, I was reading some of the guidelines and have a couple of doubts.

1- They ask us to send our current/uncancelled passports, my husband has Italian and Brazilian but his Italian and Brazilian passport have the same surname but in different order (He was born Brazilian with X Y surname when he naturalized Italian they registered him with Y X surname. Because Italy has rules regarding family name order) He registered here in the UK with his Italian surname, sending the Brazilian passport with the Italian won't it cause issues? Should we send a cover letter explaining?

2-I read a guideline saying that an Irish citizen can also be a referee,https://www.gov.uk/countersigning-passport-applications, but then for the online application it can only be British https://www.gov.uk/confirm-identity-onl ... pplication, is that correct?

Thanks!

There should be no issues

For application online that person must have a UK passport.
For countersigning forms/photos for the application via the postal route, they can be either British or Irish
