Long trip outside the UK AFTER application, advisable?

Post by Novecento » Wed Jul 17, 2019 7:30 am

I am travelling abroad with my girlfriend in august until the end of December.

My application will be sent in a couple of weeks.

I am wondering whether travelling after the application might still somehow affect the outcome. Considering it might take 6 months to receive an answer.

Thanks

My personal opinion is No.
Most applications take ~ 3 months. Further there is a possibility of receiving a letter asking more information/documents usually after 2 months if ever. That would require you ask someone to keep an eye on your mail.
Also if your application is approved, you have 21 days to make an appointment and 90 days to attend the ceremony.
So you may have to return midway through your trip. If thats fine for you then have an enjoyable trip.

Thanks for the response, someone will keep an eye on the post for me and if necessary I will book an earlier return flight.

I was wondering if my future trip might be taken into consideration given that on the last five years I slightly exceeded the 450 days limit.

But since I will travel after the application is sent, I sincerely hope not.

Thanks again

Simply - no. Nothing apart from criminal convictions etc. really count after you apply unless your application is refused and you have to apply again.

Your qualifying period ends on the date you made your application.

I have also travelled abroad between making an application and receiving my certificate without any issues.
