How to get a COA (Certificate of Application)

Post by Magarhe » Mon Jul 14, 2008 3:22 pm

Hello just rang "them" (HO, Border Agency, whatever they are called) regarding my outstanding Certificate of Application.

I am a non-EU citizen (Australian) with an EU Wife (Hungarian – an A8 country).

My wife has just completed her 12 month WRS.

I have had an FMRS for 12 months (expired the 6th of June 2008).

I have applied for my EEA2 and my wife has applied for EEA1 – we sent the documents together, to the EEA1 address, as advised, June 4th.

Now it has not been too long but no COA yet. So I rang, and they said that if I write a letter in to Croydon stating my name, nationality, and the post office registered mail code then they will issue me a COA.

Not sure if that is generally well known (or even if it will work).

Hope this info helps someone.

I only need it because work is worried blah blah blah

COA issued but 5 months on, nothing

Post by Magarhe » Thu Nov 13, 2008 4:46 pm

Well that time I rang for my COA, they sent it quite promptly.

Now, 5 months on, we rang again - they have not even looked at our application.

We asked, "isn't this supposed to be done by 6 months?" and they had no idea. Had never heard of that. So we spoke to their supervisor, who said, "Yes we try to get them back by 6 months". ... nice of them to try to comply with the EU law.
