You have to go first the country you applied visa for in first place. Then only you can go to other countries.
If you go to France with a Schengen visa issued by Spain, you will end up with a French entry stamp on top of it. They will probably let you in but next time you apply for a visa, it can be an issue.
Someone from my family changed his projects by he still flew first to the country that gave him the visa then the same day he went to his actual destination. Just to have the proper stamp on the passport and avoid hassle in the future.
