Stamp 2 expires before marriage to Irish National

Post by Seborah » Sun Sep 08, 2019 12:53 am

Need advice please!

Stamp 2 expires on 8th of September but we are getting married on the 19th..in Ireland.

We don't need the visa to get married at the registry office ( they told us) as we already passed the interview but not sure if will automatically get a stamp 4 when we go to Gnib after the 19th? Or will have to go through the application process?

Also to make things more difficult he has some issue s with the stamp 2 visa renewal due to not fully attending all his classes and we don't think they will renew it so we can't use that route

Previously it wasnt a problem. So shouldn't be an issue.
I know people who got married and went to GNIB after one or two years of expiry of their student visas and didn't get asked any questions.
I am not a 100 percent sure about now, but if they do come up with any silly questions, just tell them that you were getting married, so didn't have to take admission into a new college.
But hopefully they wont be so stupid to ask any such question.

Based on various previous posts it will be a problem. You will likely need to get an approval letter from SOIN unit if you don’t have a valid stamp by the time you register with GNIB.

Why not getting a 3 month extension for your Stamp 2? You should just be able to walk into GNIB and request for a 3 month extension. Normally it would be free.

Maybe the rules have changed now.
