Application status and check questions

Post by tresgoya » Thu Sep 05, 2019 11:30 am

Hi,

I’m getting close to 6 months now and still didn’t have a letter re: my naturalisation. EU citizen with perm residency.

I know 6 months is standard and the HO won’t give info prior. However, I’d like to know:

- would they actually give any status updates after 6 months? I saw posts on here from folks who contacted them after 6 months and HO still only provided a vague filler answer

- can you request your MP to help if the first point applies?

- should I apply to the EU settled status? with the whole Brexit mess and the naturalisation not moving, I’m getting a bit concerned about not having potentially anything to prove my status here, as it seems the perm residency card is getting replaced with the settlement card

- does HO have the right to carry out social media checks? I was recently temporary blocked from FB, because I haven’t been using my real name. I haven’t for years and many of my friends don’t, so I found the whole thing and the timing odd. Facebook wants me to submit ID, which I am reluctant to do. This is something others too had issues with apparently, after doing an online search. My FB account is over a decade old and it is a normal one, i.e. I am not doing anything out of the ordinary there. I did express political opinions in the past under articles or in status updates, but nothing abnormal or out of orderly there. Anyway, I am getting paranoid thinking that the whole blocking might be a connected to my application, as HO would have the same email I use for FB login. Probably I am just being overly paranoid at the moment, but curious if anyone had knowledge on how far HO can reach when it comes to your social media/private data and could any opinions expressed there used to judge applications without your consent.

You cannot get status updates. Your MP cannot do anything for you. Applying for settled status is not really required for now. The social media issue is not relevant. Please wait to hear back :!:

Thanks Zimba. I appreciate your help. Just one more question. Why is the settled status not required? If I don’t get a decision on my naturalisation by the closing date of the settled status applications, or for some reason my naturalisation gets denied, and I haven’t applied for the settled status, then I am left with nothing to prove my status. It is not something I would like to end up with after living here for 10 years.

Hello tresgoya, my advice: Apply for settled status now; it's a much simpler and easier process than the PR card and you can get your approval within few days (It took 9 days for me) it will give you piece of mind in this chaotic Brexit nightmare we're living. If I were you I would continue to email the HO to ask for an update, just don't overdo it. Good luck, hope you get an answer soon!

thanks. actually, I googled this eve and apparently if someone applies for settled status while one also has a pending immigration application, then the outstanding immigration application won’t be considered.

Funny, neither the HO, nor the settlement helpline mentioned this today when I phoned them. I guess they were too busy trying to send me to the other party for answers. 🙁

I have suggested before to people here and I now repeat this again, ignore the mass hysteria around Brexit. When you apply for citizenship, applying for settled status is redunadnt. Also if we assume all fails (very unlikely), you can apply for a settled status under the EU settlement scheme as the closing date is currently set to 30 June 2021 and that date can be even extended further. My advice above stands
To continue living in the UK after 30 June 2021 you must either:

apply to the EU Settlement Scheme - you will not have to prove you have 5 years’ continuous residence
apply for citizenship before 30 June 2021 (or 31 December 2020 if the UK leaves the EU without a deal)

I chased my naturalisation application and…

Post by tresgoya » Wed Sep 18, 2019 5:06 pm

…I am so happy I did! I’ve been approaching 6 months of waiting and heard nothing back at all. After emailing twice in the past 10 days to the HO – on email addresses that had been shared on this board before (THANKS!) – I received a reply. They advised that my application was approved back in May (just after 6 weeks from my application date) and a letter for a ceremony invitation also has been sent out.

I am so happy I didn't just keep waiting… On another note, I am petrified that now I lost the approval because I thought there was a 3-month-deadline to arrange/re-schedule the ceremony, which I obviously missed.

Has anyone been in such sauce before? Should I still be okay? I did phone HO straight away and was given another email to contact to explain what happened and to ask for them to resend the letters. So I’m dreading what the reply to that might be if there is indeed a rule about arranging the ceremony in a specific timeframe from approval…

How did you miss two letters ? They will extend the time for you and you should be able to book your ceremony

I have never gotten them. I checked my calendar to see if I was away at the time and perhaps missed it because of that, but no.

my friend thinks they might have forgotten to actually post it.

and we have had issues with the post, like f.e. the postman delivering our neighbours’ posts to us and vice versa. so, I’m thinking that could also have happened.

Thanks to you and everyone on this board for being so responsive and helpful. It meant a lot to be able to turn to this board for advice.

so happy despite the fact that I still need to hold the actual letter in my hands :)

Thanks. There seem to be quite a few emails floating on this forum. Just wanted a confirmation of the ones that actually reply sooner rather than later..
hopefully OP can confirm as well!

Don't worry, I lost it and when they told me that it was posted, I reuqested them back asking for soft copy of approval letter and invitation. I emailed here Citizenship.Support@homeoffice.gov.uk

And then contacted my local council for my ceremony date telling them that I lose my posts, so they emailed me the invitation also along with the post. Surprisingly, I got all lost letters in post also.
