Travel outside UK after visa decison is received

Hello Moderators,

My situation is this:

I have an existing Tier 2 dependant visa that is valid until 29-Nov-2019.

Day before yesterday, I applied for a visa extension along with my wife (who is the main applicant).

Today, I got an email from Home Office stating:

"Your application under Tier-2 General of the immigration rules as a dependant of <> has been successful. You will receive your BRP by courier within 7 days. It is your BRP, not this letter that is the official document that grants you leave to remain in the UK (permission to stay) until 13 Dec 2021."


Now, I have a short, but important 3 day business travel that had been already booked to Barcelona - date of travel 23rd September 2019. It's a return ticket.

As my existing BRP is still valid untli 29th Nov (hopefully!?) can I travel outside of UK? Will I have a challenge to reenter UK as I am not sure if they will have it on record that my visa has just been extended, so not sure if my BRP would have been marked as cancelled/ invalid in the Home Office systems?

Your existing BRP would have been cancelled when the new visa was approved. I am fairly certain that you are also required to return the BRP to HO.

Yes, I need to return my old BRP to HO, however, would my old one be cancelled as I am assuming the start date on the new one will be from the last date of the previous one.

Your old BRP will be cancelled.

Your new BRP start date and visa is issued from the date of approval and is NOT tagged onto the end date of your last visa.
