Renewing Stamp 4 & Naturalised Citizenship

Post by JenBenM » Tue Nov 05, 2019 1:33 pm

Hi all,

I'm an Irish citizen and my Canadian spouse is going to be in Ireland 3 years as of December 2020. We have been looking in to what is takes to renew his Stamp 4 visa and it states that he needs private health insurance to do so. He hasn't had health insurance since moving here and wasn't requested to have it when he applied for his Stamp 4 in 2017. Does he actually need health insurance for his renewal, can anyone tell me?

He also wants to apply for citizenship once he is entitled to do so. Can he forego renewing his Stamp 4 altogether and simply apply for citizenship or does he need to renew the Stamp 4 visa and then apply for citizenship? Bit confused as his original Stamp 4 is good for 3 years and I know he's entitled to become a citizen after 3 years of living here.

Thanks in advance!

Jen

Your partner don't need to have insurance. He already has stamp 4, this case is only a renewal.

How do I apply?
There are two routes in which a non EEA national can apply for permission to reside in the State on the basis of marriage or civil partnership with an Irish national.

A. If you are a non visa required national who has entered the State legally within the last 90 days or if you are a visa required national and you are within the period of permission to remain granted to you on arrival in the State (except short stay ‘c’ visas):, or if you have current permission to remain in the State on an alternative basis both you and your Irish national spouse/civil partner should attend at your local Garda National Immigration Bureau Registration office with the following documentation:

Your original marriage/civil partnership certificate
Your original passport
Your Irish spouse’s/civil partner’s original passport
Evidence of your joint address

Hi,

Thanks for the reply! He will have to renew it in December 2020 so does that not mean that he'll have to have private health insurance for when he goes to renew it?

Thanks,
Jen
