Help... yet another English Requirement Question

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone had similar situation as my friend who is applying for a Tier 1 visa at the moment.

She studied her degree in Malaysia, it's a partner college (INTI) of University of Hertfordshire. Her degree was taught in English and awarded by University of Hertfordshire although all modules were studied in INTI College. According to the online assessment tool, a degree studied at that college will not be awarded points for English requirement. However, in the form, the required information is the Country and Institution of Award, not Country and Institution studied.

Can she put Unviersity of Hertfordshire, UK as the institution awarding her degree (since the certificate is from UH and not INTI college), and explain in the cover letter that it's been studied in Malaysia? Will that be accepted?

Please advise.

If the qualification is not listed under the english language requirement section of the self-assessment tool, one *cannot* claim points for english language proficiency based on that qualification. Period!

That is the confusing bit. The qualification obtained is listed in the self-assessment tool for english requirement. The certificate is actually from University of Hertfordshire, UK which will give 10 points from the assessment. The problem is, the course is being carried out at a partner college in a different country where 0 points have been awarded if the degree is being awarded from that college.

For most people, the institution they studied at will be the institution that award the degree. The self assessment tool ask for the location of study, the form says location of award assuming both are the same. Unfortunately in this case, it's clearly not the same.

I suppose the safest option is to take an English test.

Well, the assessment-tool asks for all such details (location / country of study etc.) for a reason!

Not "the safest" but "the only" - unless your friend can prove english language proficiency on basis of another qualification or as a national of one of the listed countries with english is the first language.

Yup, totally understand that. I just think they should have both wording the same.
