Waiting for LTR

Hi,

I am going to apply LTR, but it may take 24 months to get it. But my work visa expires next year. I am not sure that I may get renewal or not.
But what will happen to my LTR if it is approved?
Can I collect the letter later and what about the police certs etc?

Anyone has experience in this case?
