ILR Financial requirement

What is the financial requirement for ILR on a five year route
I don’t understand what does it means

Proof of finances

If you’re on the 5-year route, you and your partner usually need to prove that you have at least:

£18,600 a year if you have no children
£22,400 a year if you have 1 child
£2,400 a year for each additional child you have

It is saying ( a year )? What is this a year means ? last full financial year or last five years to meet the financial requirements of ILR on a five year partner route?
