Applying for Irish Citizinship 2020

Post by rolandmansour » Mon Jan 06, 2020 11:10 am

Dears,

Happy New Year to everyone.
I wanted to post my questions here incase someone is able to help me.
Next month (Feb) I will finish my 5 years in Ireland and i must be eligible to apply for Irish Citizenship, came initial with Stamp 1 Critical than moved to Stamp 4 for the past 3 years, my baby is borne in Ireland and got the Irish passport on 2018. I am holding a Lebanese passport.
questions are:
* 1: the past year (2019) i went out of the country for 6 weeks business trips (have a proof/confirmation from my company) + 3 weeks personal vacation. would this make my citizenship application rejected?
* 2: is the 6 weeks rule apply for all the past 5 years or only for the last year?
* 3: If Q #2 is yes, and i went outside the country for vacation on 2015 8 weeks, do i have to stay extra 2weeks or 8 weeks over Feb 2020 in order to apply?

I really appreciate your support here.
Thanks a mill,
Roland

1. In principle the requirement is 6 weeks max. You can explain your situation but it’s up to the minister to consider whether he accepts your application.

2 & 3. You can be out of the state for more than 6 weeks but I heard this period needs to be deducted. So if you were out for 8 weeks, you should wait for another 8 weeks before you submit your application.

It is 6 weeks max in last year but with minister discretion. You can probably try to apply, explaining the need to travel.
If it not work it will be refused prior to 2nd stage(2-7 months), try not to travel in meantime and apply 2nd time.

I wonder if RJ’s application was refused prior to the second stage or when it was submitted by the Minister.

I read some posts that people were refused prior to the 2nd stage due to the 6 weeks in last year rule.
