Police registration confusion

Post by confused_person » Tue Jan 07, 2020 11:27 pm

I arrived in the UK in early 2017 on Tier 2 General visa. Prior to arrival, my employer’s guidance to me was that police registration may be required, but I needed to check my visa vignette, and neither did my visa vignette nor BRP stated stated police registration was required. I had followed my company’s guidance and didn’t do further checks this requirement with the Home Office or Met Police.

I am currently renewing my Tier 2 and my company has asked me to provide my police registration certificate, which naturally I don’t have. My company is arguing that irrespective of what my visa vignette or BRP says, it is overruled by my country of original which is on the list of countries required to register with the police.

I have friends from the same country with Tier 2 visas who have explicit requirement on their vignettes or BRP to register with the police, but mine doesn’t. Anyone has any experience or view on this and the inconsistent practices from the Home Office?

This happened to me as well.

My nationality is in the list, but there is no requirement on the visa vignette.

I am about to extend my Tier 2 general visa, and will go ahead without worrying about this. As you are not imposed to report to police personally.

Here's the proof that you can show to your employer: https://www.met.police.uk/advice/advice ... -register/
Met police states:
"If you need to register with the police on your arrival in the UK, it should be written on your entry visa vignette, biometric residence permit or Home Office letter approving your application for leave. We can’t register you if you don’t have a requirement in writing on any of these documents. "

There you go, the last bit says police can't register you if you don't have this police registration note on your documents, so presumably you won't even get one if you try. Make sure you let your employer know.
