Indian passport cancellation and visitor visa for India

Hi
I have received my british passport on 24th july 2008 .Due to some urgent reasons I have to visit India on 8th of August .
SO I applied for visitor visa at Indian embassy today(04th august).

Still I need to cancel my Indian passport .

I will travel to India on visitor visa only but wanted to know should I get my Indian passport cancelled before travelling .
