Am I British by descent?

Post by passport_seeker » Wed Aug 06, 2008 1:12 pm

My grandfather was born in the UK in 1923.

My father was born in a BRITISH military hospital in Berlin.

I was born in Zimbabwe.

It had been assumed that my dad was British by birth and therefore I would be british by descent.

However over the years he has been told that this information was incorrect and that he is British by descent and I am not entitled to British citizenship.

The last time he investigated this was ten years ago and I was wondering if anyone know if some laws have been changed in order to favour me??

Thanks!!!

When were you born?

And was your grandfather in the British forces when your father was born? (and when was your father born ... ?)

I was born in 1983. My dad was born in 1958.

My Grandfather was not in the British forces when my dad was born.

Unless your grandfather was in some kind of U.K. Government service when your father was born, your father was British "by descent" in 1983 and hence you did not become a British citizen when you were born.

Assuming your mother isn't British or something else you haven't told us.

Best you can probably hope for is the Ancestry Visa: http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk
