UK Spouse visa extension

Post by gopichand12 » Sat Feb 22, 2020 6:27 pm

Hi there. My wife is on a spouse visa and I am looking to extend this as the initial 2.5years is due to finish.

Where can I find information on what form and what documents I need to submit for the extension.

Also she sat the IELTS academic test in October 2019 and scored 6.5 so is this sufficient to meet english language requirements

Form FLR M

English A2 minimum is required.

Evidence of meeting the financial requirements again.

2 years evidence of cohabitation in both your names

Thanks for quick reply - we are not quite understanding the A2 minimum part, which type of IELTS does that come under, UKVI academic? UK life skills?

Also how quickly can we apply for extension? Is the date on the BRP the date the visa ends?

You haven't stated the date she arrived in the UK on a spouse visa.

ok so always life skills - how come UKVI academic or general training would not be sufficient?

She came into the country for the first time on the visa 10th July 2018 so when should I be applying?

They are usually for other visa routes.

When does her visa expire? What date was her visa valid from?

If your test contains UKVI unique reference number then should be fine.
Please note that both General and Academic Training modules are accepted. The CEFR requirement for each skill must be met.

IELTS for UKVI can be used where IELTS Life Skills is used; test takers would need to get 4.0 or above in Speaking and Listening (scores for Reading and Writing will be ignored)

How would I know what date it would expire? Is it date on BRP?

It is from British council who organize these tests and are recognised by UKVI.

Initial visa from outside the UK is granted usually for 33 months but you can still apply extension after 30 months minus 28 days from the date of arriving to UK. But ideally unless the personal circumstances/visa rules including any fees are not changing then the extension should be applied very close to expiry to avail the maximum length of visa which also minimize the every possible chance of any shortfall towards the qualifying period for ILR.
