Names not tallying up

Post by Samccc » Sat Aug 01, 2020 3:58 pm

Hi, my grandad was Irish and I am in the process of applying for irish citenship through him.
I have all the paperwork required ready to go, but as is quite common he went by the name Shamus but was born James. So on his birth certificate he is called James but on his marriage certificate he is Shamus. Will this be an issue whilst applying? Thank you.

Seamus is the Irish 'translation' of James!

Hi, I know but I was wondering if it will be a problem that he was James on his birth certificate and Shamus on his marriage and death certificate? Thanks.

Write a cover letter explaining the discrepancy. Name differences are incredibly common in FBR applications so it shouldn't be a problem.
