citizenship application form - marriage

Post by italian65 » Sun Aug 31, 2008 2:04 pm

The citizenship application form states 3 year residency requirement if applicant is married to british citizen. However, the application form asks that addresses for last 5 years be listed.

Why would previous 5 years of addresses be required if application pertains to 3 year residency per the marriage process?

If you have only 3 years of UK address then just provide 3 years

citizenship application form - marriage

Thank you Republique. I question why the form doesn't specify to list only 3 years of addresses if it is a marriage based application?

I certainly know what you asked and if you were so astute to notice the difference between 3 and 5, I am pretty sure you can figure out why.

You only need to fill in your previous addresses for the last 3 years, seeing as your application is based on your being married to a British citizen and being in the Uk as a British spouse for 3 years.

There are two main routes to naturalisation: through marriage to a British citizen, or by completing a qualifying residence period.

The Three Year Residence Requirement

You will need to show that you:

* are married to a British citizen and the marriage is subsisting;
* were in the UK on the date three years prior to the date of the application;
* have not been absent for more than 270 days in that period;
* have not been absent for more than 90 days during the last 12 months of that period;
* hold indefinite leave to remain (ILR) in the UK;
* that you have a firm understanding of the English language and life in the UK; and
* have not been in breach of immigration laws in the last 3 years.
