EU citizen traveling on ID card only

Hi everyone.
Is it possible to bring my Greek niece (Greek national by birth) on ID card only? The passport is due in a few weeks, but I'm travelling to Greece next week and would like to bring her with me. She's only 16 - somebody should accompany her. Parents are busy working.

Airlines have no problems with teens 15 and older traveling on their own..
