Application for Naturalisation

Post by NiallPP » Sun Oct 18, 2020 7:53 pm

Hi all,

Just trying to find some clarity with regard to sending in an application for citizenship currently. Details on official website are a little confusing and contradictory. a 27th August update on the irishimmigration site states "Applicants should not send applications unless the form is fully completed and accompanied with original current passport, application fee and all the required supporting documents" and though "unprecedented delays are occurring",and " it is not possible to guarantee the prompt return of original documents at this time" it does seem to suggest its still possible to send in applications. However a 28th August update elsewhere on the official site states "As per earlier communications, applicants are asked not to submit passports/application forms, this still remains the case."

I can't find any more recent update but with no change to the current situation on the immediate horizon and being conscious of all the delays wanting to get a place in the queue is it safe to send off a completed application form (with passport and all required documents) via registered mail right now?

Any advice on this much appreciated, thanks!

You can send your application, but be prepared for long wait to get your passport back and overall long processing time. Everything is at it's slowest.

I'd only suggest to do it if you don't have any urgent plans to travel anywhere.

No urgent plans to travel (who does right now in the current climate?) and I can't see anything getting any faster any time soon so may as well get it sent and get in the queue now
