Apply for citizenship immediately or wait few weeks?

Post by johnpromise01 » Thu Nov 05, 2020 1:10 pm

A friend will complete her 5 years with stamp 4 January and want to know if she should wait for few weeks after the day she complete the 5 years or she can apply after two or three days? She has never traveled outside Ireland for more than 4 weeks, nor 6 weeks. What do you think?

Isn't the reckonable residence based off the stamp dates (i.e Stamp 4)?
I'm wondering why the travel dates are relevant? (Just wondering as I'm in a similar situation)

More than 6weeks outside Ireland for previous years need to be subtracted from 5years, in last year prior to application you should not spend more than 6 wks outside Ireland

Your friend can apply directly when she fulfills the reconable dates.

Have in mind that one of the main reasons for refusal is not enough reckonable residence. It's better to wait a few more extra months than risking to wait few more years in a limbo and THEN get refusal. I know someone that did and got exactly that.

I personally applied 7-8 months after I became eligible.

She contacted her local GNIB office about this few days ago. They printed and gave her a letter TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN outlining her permissions and registrations records. The letter also stated exactly date she can apply which is the exactly day she will complete 5 years. The letter was signed and dated.

Cool, but did the letter took into account the absences from the State?
