applying early for a student extension

Post by houseonfire » Tue Sep 23, 2008 2:58 pm

i have been studying in the UK for nine months (since Jan 2008) and my visa expires in April 2009.

To complete my qualification i need to enrol on the remaining modules of my course which run from January-June 2009.

In terms of my visa, should I apply to extend my student visa before my course starts (i.e. around December) or wait until my current visa has run out around March 2009 - which could be a bit of a risk because I will already be half way through my course. Would they be able to extend my visa four months or so before it expires?

also, because it would be a reasonably short extension (perhaps 6 months or less) do you know if this would mean i would be on a 'student visitor visa'? or would i be under the same conditions as my existing student visa?

any info would be much appreciated, thank you

thanks RAJ2007

Do you know where I can find the info about the 28 days? I've downloaded the FLR(s) form and the guidance notes but there's no mention of it there, and I can't seem to find it elsewhere.

best wishes

It used to be 28days but the new form/guidance does not mention that. Has anyone else got any more info on this?

It's on the letter that you received with your last student visa.

I have seen this information somewhere on the web but can't recall where. Related to another category though.

The general rule is 28 days or less but I think houseonfire was asking about the official source of this information...always best to check it for yourself if you know where to look.

Hi......
When my last student visa extension was due,i searched a lot over the internet to find out out the exact time limits but unfortunately i couldn't find it any where on the HO website but it is stated on some universities websites that you can apply for your student visa extension within the last 6 weeks.I confirmed from my uni and they confirmed it.
I sent my postal application 5 weeks prior to my last visa date and it was accepted with no problems

Hope,,it will help
