when should a refugee apply for ILR?

Post by nihad » Thu Feb 04, 2021 7:32 pm

Hi

my 5 year refugee status is due to expire in Feb 2022
how long before then should l apply for ILR?
i’m just concerned that applications taking such a long time at the moment,
will l still be able to work if there was no decision on my application by Feb 2022?

thanks

You must apply for ILR before your current visa expiry (or up to 28 days before completing 5 years on refugee status). Your work rights will remain the same till a decision is made as long you make an in time application i.e. before current visa expiry.

I am assuming you mean you have completed 5 years since you were granted initial stay as a refugee.

There is no fee and you are exempt from LIUK and English Requirements at this stage also (but not British Citizenship stage).
