Work permit vs HSMP

Post by orange » Wed Oct 01, 2008 7:37 pm

Hi all,
I have a HSMP approval letter and am planning to apply for EC in January.
But the company with which Iam going to work in UK, is ready to process a work permit for me. I would like to know what are the pros and cons of either visas in terms of
1) spouse being able to work:is it possible as a work permit dependent
2) NHS coverage and eligibility for public services if necessary: Tier 1 visa holder is not supposed to use any public fund, does it include NHS services.
3) Is tier 1 more advantageous than work permit, while applying for PR?
4) Any other gross differences in advantage/disadvantage of either visa?

Yes

availing NHS services is not considered as recourse to public fund
3) Is tier 1 more advantageous than work permit, while applying for PR?
No
4) Any other gross differences in advantage/disadvantage of either visa?
With Tier-1 you can switch jobs easily (this is not realistic in the current market) in case of WP you will have to ask the new employer to sponsor you

Hope this helps
