Work Permit in Ireland

Post by m.anderson » Wed Oct 15, 2008 8:33 pm

Hello,

This is my first post :). Please let me know how long it takes to obtain an irish work permit. My company will sponser me in Ireland if the work permit doesn't take too long. I cjecked the department of enterprise and employment's website and it only showed a basic guideline, but no mention on the time frame.

Thanks

you can alwats check processing site on:
http://www.entemp.ie/labour/workpermits/

"Current Processing Times: Applications are processed strictly in date of receipt order. Today we are processing applications received on the following dates for the specific types of permits.

Green Cards 08th Oct 2008
Work Permits 25th Sept 2008
Medical Professionals 03rd Oct 2008
Spousal/Dependant 26th Sept 2008
Intra-company Transfer 09th Oct 2008"

so it takes less then a month now...

Thanks Alica,

I saw that but this is when the application is ready to be submitted. How about preparing the application? I understand the labor market needs to be tested and an Ad must be placed. All that preperation work, will this take too long?

if you are applying for Work Permit job shoulb be advertised in FAS for 3 months and if there is no EU members, who want to take a job-Employer can sigh Application for Work Permit.
Usually Employer just writing advert suitable for you only- eg. "specialist in ... with knoledge of ... and fluent ... & ... languages" , what makes impossible to apply by any other candidates...

good luck!!!

Thanks Alica for this information. I'm now in Ireland for 90 days (until March 1st 09). i have a C type visa which means i can only stay in Ireland for a max of 3 month. The website says that i have to leave the country on March 1st. See link below
http://www.inis.gov.ie/en/INIS/Pages/WP07000157

I need to renew my stay for another 3 month while in Ireland, it looks like the work permit will take an average of 6 months (3 month Advertisment, and the processing time is about a month....) and i have to leave by that time. Is there a way to renew my stay while in Ireland if i got a letter from the employer saying that i need a 3 month extension?

If anyone has any information regarding this matter, i would appreciate your help.

In General, it will be easier for you to leave the country and apply another visa to come in once your work permit has been granted. It will also easier for you in future.

it depends on what you want to do. if you want to stick around before they give you a work permit, here is what you need to do. get a letter from you employer stating that work permit has been applied on you behalf! since you are already in the country, you do not have to deal with the entry visa anymore. take the letter from you employer and go to GNIB if you are in Dublin. explain to them that you are waiting on the decision of the work permit. if they grant you extension on your permission to remain, then you dont have to leave the country. if they said no, then you will have to leave and come back when the work permit is granted! good luck!

Thanks mktsoi, it takes 3 month for advertisment for work permit and it will be too late since i have to be out of the country by then. if there is a way to renew a buisness visa for another 3 month then i guess i'm all set. I'm in Cork, which is a bit far from Dublin. Is there any other way?

the reason why I said GNIB in Dublin because i am in Dublin. in your case, you should go to the local registration office, which i am sure it will be on in Cork. i am not sure how you business visa works but once when you are in the country, you do not need to renew you visa, you have to renew the stamp they gave you when you registered with the local registration office if you see what i mean. go ask them, and see what they say but dont leave it until last week before you stamp expires in your passport!

Agree with mktsoi. In general permission to remain will given (stamp on your passport) while waiting for work permit. Just make sure you have letter from your employer and copy of work permit application if you have it.

Do not enter any employment while waiting for your work permit. It is illegal.
