Referee for naturalisation has not passport

Hello

I need your help . One of my British referee has expired passport long time ago . Is it acceptable for AN form to provide the expired passport for referee or i can Just leave the passport number field empty ? I have another British professional referee with valid passport .
Will Appreciate your response .
