ILETS help?

Post by blueskiesdreamer » Thu Sep 02, 2021 9:46 pm

Hi all.

Recently my partner of 6 years took the A1 speaking exam for life skills as part of her visa app to the UK. Despite working as a translator for 12 years in English and Portuguese she was failed with no further explanation. Obviously we are pretty shocked by this given I have never had a conversation with her not in English and she is fluent, so much in fact she is often mistaken for being an American Citizen rather than from Brazil. Does anyone have any good tutors who specialise in this? We have contacted one already but he said essentially she is so fluent he can't see any improvements she would need to make or why she was failed.

Obviously I know there is both an appeal and complaints procedure but obviously would like to resolve this simply by ensuring the next time she takes it she is able to pass.

Thanks.

With your Explanation believe she is up to it and proceed to retake the exam. Check if there are practice materials she can look at specifically for the level of test she wants to do.

I agree with the above. Just resit the exam, obviously that's more money but it seems to be less hassle than the appeal process and more time consuming. Get the right result and then appeal the previous test result and maybe they will refund it if they find an issue? Good luck
