Confused about cancelled / uncancelled passports

Hi

I have 4 expired passports. Each one i did 2 years length. I dont know why. So each time I applied to get a new one they put 2 holes and stamp saying 'Void' I still have them. Today i applied for british passport and sent my current valid foreign passport and 1 previous expired & void one.


So Void means cancelled passport as they stamped and put 2 holes in the corners?
