Original Passport or Certified copies with Minor Naturalisation application

Post by ashdublin » Wed Feb 23, 2022 9:12 am

In Form 9, the Following is mentioned

"The original of your child’s current passport and any previous passports valid during periods of residence in the state, together with a photocopy of the biometric page of each passport."

In the notice https://www.irishimmigration.ie/further ... uary-2022/, it is mentioned that
From 1 January 2022, new applicants for citizenship will not be required to submit their original passport with the initial application. Instead, they can provide a full colour copy of their entire passport and all previous passports containing stamps that contribute to an applicant’s period of reckonable residency claimed, including the front and back covers. The colour copy must be certified and submitted with the application form.

Both above contradict each other. Did anyone apply for a minor citizenship application?

See this link for confirming the fact that you should send a photocopy of passport (certified).

is it just the photocopy page and pages with stamps that need certified?

The whole thing needs to be certified, front & back and all pages.

is it still possible to just send the passport with the application to avoid crazy charges for certifying?

If the department has mentioned that they are not receiving the passports, this also means that they will most probably take even less responsibility regarding their safekeeping and their return. Of course, the risk is always up to the applicant, but I would mostly suggest trying to find the specific professional needed that will not 'milk' the process and thus the cost.

I checked the new form8 and it asks for who certified those pages, so there is commissioner of oath, solicitor etc. So it doesn't have to be solicitor I believe so. Commissioner of oath has 10 euro per page price and there is a maximum fee they can charge, of course they can charge extra for transportation costs etc.

Just count how many pages will be the copy of the passport, google for solicitors and commissioner of oaths and email them and ask for price and go with the best one.

Under no circumstances, I would be willing to send my passport by post if there was an alternate option. Even it costs a thousand euro to certify my whole passport. Because if your passport gets lost, in ISD or in post office etc. your all proofs will be gone, all stamps in it will be gone. And not single person will be understanding in this case. You will have to apply for new passport and good luck proving you had 5 years of legal residency in Ireland.

Yes you can say "but their systems have the record of it", well I doubt that as they still asks us to proof the stamps in the passports that INIS gave us.
