Need advice for application time

Post by duranduran » Wed Mar 16, 2022 2:01 pm

I was on Tier-2 for 5 years and got my ILR on December 2021 so i'm eligible to apply to citizenship. I was working remotely for the last 2 years and i’ve stayed in short term lets and airbnb’s for the last 5-6 months. Also i’ve quit my job recently so i’m not working at the moment.

I'm trying to make a decision between two options
- I can travel for a couple of months and apply to naturalisation when i come back. Is this likely to impact my application? I spent 2 weeks outside of UK for the last 12 months and i'm not planing to travel more than 2 months. I won't a rental place in UK if i choose this option.
- Apply for naturalisation now and delay travel plans: I don't have a permanent address now, i probably need to rent a place. Also i should find a new job in the meantime. So i'll be stuck in UK if i choose this option.

My ILR is valid until the end of 2024 and for the last year i was out of UK only for 2 weeks.

I’m probably overthinking this as both options are viable but would love to hear some advice.

Thanks

If you got ILR on December 2021, then you will be eligible to apply for citizenship on December 2022.

Not sure what you mean here. Do you mean you have been absent from the UK during the last 2 years? (Asking as this contradicts your next sentences re. being absent for 2 weeks).

You seem to think that you cannot leave the UK once your British Citizenship application is in progress. This is not the case. You can indeed travel abroad while you wait for the outcome.

Then again, seems like the first thing you need to do is have it clear when you are actually eligible to apply.
My posts express what I believe are the facts, based on the best of my knowledge, about the topics discussed in this forum. They do not constitute immigration advice.
