Health care visa- 2 year or 3 year extension

Hi,
Our visas are up for renewal shortly. Currently we are in tier 2 general and pbs dependents (3 years) and would be extending to healthcare visa and dependents.

I was hoping the extension would be given for 3 years. But the visa cell of the employer says it will be extended for only 2 years. I understand we can stay for 6 years in total.

Can I ask for 3 years extension ? This way I would not need to renew further and fulfill the gap for dependent ILR.

though we could apply for ILR in 5 years. Any idea how long we could keep extending the visas ? is it only upto 6 years or no limit?

There is no longer a 6 year limit.
