Travel outside after submitting the application

Post by Malang » Fri Sep 02, 2022 10:28 am

Dear members,

I have submitted renewal of my Biometric Permanent Resident and I have done the biometric two weeks ago.

I still have my expired BRP, can I travel on that and my passport before new BRP comes back?

I have called the UKVI but no option on above matter.

Many thanks in advance.

you shouldn't travel outside the UK if you have an immigration application with UKVI.

Citizenship application is different and you are allowed to travel while the application is under processing.

Thanks for your reply.

Is there any way I can contact the UKVI for a request an expedite?

For some reason I can't find the option for speed up process.

With thanks.

It gets confusing when you say you're renewing your BRP. I'm sure you actually meant that your extending your legal stay in the UK.

They are 2 different things entirely. If you're extending your stay;
1. You run into trouble the minute you cross the boarder and leave the UK.
2. You can't expedite the process because you suddenly feel like travelling after 2 weeks. People have been waiting for months. It takes as long as it takes.
No sin in failing, you just have to try and try again!

It is an ILR BRP renewal and not a visa extension.

Alas, I read and re-read the whole thing and completely missed that. Maybe cause OP used the word Permanent resident.
My bad.

Still wouldn't advise travelling out without it. If OP has a problem using the e-gates, there would be no valid BRP to record on the passport (when getting stamped in) as evidence of right to enter and live in the UK.

It might create a bit of an impasse!
