Child born abroad

Post by Aryap26 » Fri Feb 10, 2023 9:40 pm

My child born abroad in 2018.

By the time the child born we both mother and father are British citizens through
naturalization

Mother got BC 2016 Father got BC 2017

We bring back our child after 6 months of her birth through
Certificate of Entitlement to the Right of Abode

But from 2020 to 2022 we all are outside UK

Child passport is about to expire so thinking of applying British Passport for my child through
MN1 under 3(2)

We have questions on the below queries

• either parent (the parent in question) was a British citizen by descent at the time
of the child’s birth

(We both are British Citizens by naturalization at the time of child's birth)
Hope child is eligible for BC

• the mother or father of the parent in question (the child’s grandparent) became
or but for their death would have become, a British citizen otherwise than by
descent either:
o on 1 January 1983
o at the time of the parent’s birth

Not sure on this question

Any help in this regard would be highly appreciated.

Not sure this question is fall under the which category I posted here please move to the right category if required.

Thanks In Advance

If you were British citizens at the time your child was born then child is British (otherwise child would not have received CoE/RoA) - apply directly to HMPO for British passport when you are in the UK - MN1 is not relevant in this scenario.

We have questions on the below queries

• either parent (the parent in question) was a British citizen by descent at the time
of the child’s birth

(We both are British Citizens by naturalization at the time of child's birth)
Hope child is eligible for BC Child is British as mentioned above.

• the mother or father of the parent in question (the child’s grandparent) became
or but for their death would have become, a British citizen otherwise than by
descent either:
o on 1 January 1983
o at the time of the parent’s birth

Not sure on this question So you are applying for a passport? Grandparents' details are not relevant. Child's British citizenship is based on yours.

Hello Admins,

With the help of above information I am able to submit my daughter application online.

After submitting I have below query before sending the required documents

Parents’ documents
For 1 of your parents, send 1 of the following:

full birth or adoption certificate
naturalisation or registration certificate

Query : Do I need to send both documents or One of them is enough.

Thanks in advance
Arya

Only one document as the question states. In your case the naturalisation document of one parent.

Hi admins,

After I submit the application, even I send the original birth certificate issued from back home got below message.

We cannot accept a photocopy of this document.

Can you please let me know how to authenticate or Prove the birth certificate is original.

Have they stated that the birth certificate is a copy? No explanation why they say that?
Perhaps it's best you contact the HMPO Helpline asking for an explanation - I would have thought caseworkers are familiar with the look and feel of various document originals .... https://www.gov.uk/passport-advice-line - perhaps best to fill in the online form rather than calling which can take time, or reply to the email if you received one.
