Divorce

Post by Dani122 » Sun Mar 12, 2023 6:32 pm

Hi, my ex husband is from Pakistan. I am islamically divorced now but I was told that when they come over on a spouse visa then you are automatically registered as uk married too. Is this true? Do I need a uk divorce?

No. A marriage officially conducted abroad is recognised by the UK as a valid marriage, but this is not the same a the marriage being registered in the UK.

If you are domiciled in the UK, you should ideally get divorced in the UK. Anyone resident in the UK can divorce here, regardless of where they got married as long as the marriage is legally conducted in whichever country.
