Referees Question

Post by RedBlue » Tue Apr 11, 2023 4:50 pm

Hi All,

Do both referees need to be above 25 years of age and know the applicant for 3 years or just one? I have a friend who is 24 years and has known her since 2020 hope I can use her as a ref?

My understanding
1st referee - Professional, British citizen, above 25 and known for 3years
2nd referee - Any citizen

Thanks,
RB

No, you have it wrong.

Professional referee can be of any Nationality. I don't recall there being a minimum age stated for this. Must have known the applicant for 3 years.

The second referee must be British and 25 or older and known the applicant for 3 years.

Thanks for your response. I dont see a min age for second referee.
Give your first referee's details. This referee should normally be:

a British, Commonwealth or Irish citizen who is either a professional person or over the age of 25. If you or a child are living abroad, a citizen of the country in which you are residing may complete and sign the form, provided they have professional standing in that country and have known you for 3 years

Your second referee
Give your second referee's details. This referee must be:
a person of any nationality who has professional standing.
Examples of a professional person or someone with professional standing could be - a minister of religion, civil servant, teacher, nurse, pharmacist, bank official or a member of a professional body, for example, accountant or solicitor (but not representing you with this application). A list of acceptable professional persons can be found on our website.

It does not matter which referee you put as first or second. They simply must meet the requirements.

Thank you for the quick reply. Do we need to upload old BRP cards as well? We don't have the originals as they were returned but I still have digital copies.
