Not reaching 150 points for all 5 years - any advice or workarounds?

Post by Steve6792 » Mon Apr 17, 2023 11:55 am

Hi All,

My partner is looking into getting Irish citizenship.
She has been living in Ireland for 6 years now.
currently with the point system she only had 150 points for 3/5 of the years and 100 points for the remaining 2 years.
She got a credit card 3 years ago and thats what has helped her achieve the 150.
she does not have any proof of rent or gas / electricity bills as this has always been under a roomates name.

Does anyone have any idea if 150 points is absolutely necessary or if there are any workarounds here?
She has been working in a hospital here caring for the sick for 6 years now and can't get citizenship because details just happened to be under someone elses name for paying bills etc. and not having a credit card when she arrived because she didn't need one!

Would love to hear the boards thoughts / experiences with this if any.

Best,

S

What's her current breakdown on points? and from what year is she able to achieve 150 points?

Technically, ISD has changed their proof system unprompted a year and a half back; before scorecard, she just needed 3 proofs of address throughout each year of residence. You can try to send this in, as how could she gather necessary documentation without knowing that's what she needs (since system changed in 2022)?

Thank you so much for the response on this!

Her current points breakdown is:
2018 = 120
2019 = 120
2020 = 145
2021 = 170
2022 = 170

It states there are an additional 50 points for Department of social Welfare Annual statements that she is using for 21 and 22 but only because she happened to have a single transaction for each one of these years show up under the Annual statement due to covid and sickness.

The statements would appear blank for 2018 and 2019 because she did not make any contribution so we're assuming these are unusable.

I assume 120 is made of 70 for P60 + 50 for rent agreement.

She has been working in a hospital here
Can hospital issue her with Medical Practitioner Employment History Summary for 25 points extra, if she worked with them before?
Possibly you can throw a medical insurance in the mix for 10 points?

If nothing works, guidelines on the old form in terms of residence were:
Please submit three different proofs of residence for each year showing name and address for this period i.e. mortgage/rent agreement, household bills (gas, electricity, phone or cable/satellite TV), bank statements, revenue letters, mortgage agreement, social welfare, letter from employment, etc.
If she has it, you can try to use this for years before 2022, for which she lacks points, and see what ISD says. You can't provide what you don't have, but you didn't know you needed this type of proofs before '22.

As new system is in place for a year and a half and applications take 1.5 - 2 years to be processed now, there's yet to be a success story on this forum, but nothing stops you to try.

Thanks again for the prompt response here its much appreciated.
The 120s are actually P60 and Annual Statements from welfare, nothing for rent agreement as it was her Friend that was paying the rent and its under their name not hers.

Shes a nurse, not a doctor, so not certain if the Medical Practitioner Employment is relevant to her but we can check.

Thanks again for the feedback here.
We'll see if we can scrape some more points together somehow.

If she is a registered nurse here in ireland then she must have a PIN number. If yes it is worth submitting her NMBI annual retention certificates as it is the equivalent registration of a GP practitioner. It’ll show she is practicing in ireland her profession.

Also if she is a INMO member she could submit that as evidence too
