non eu citizen giving birth in IRELAND

Post by Wonderless » Mon Jun 26, 2023 12:57 pm

Friend of mine asked, she is on student visa, and pregnant.
Any benefit to Mum giving a birth in IRELAND?
Will single mom situations help her permission to live in IRELAND- like chance to apply IRISH Citizenship or exchange her stamp 2 to different stamp in near or future?
anyone went through same route
Please share it here

If you or your child were born in Ireland after 31 December 2004 and do not qualify as an Irish citizen by birth, you can apply for citizenship by naturalisation after you (and the child) have completed five years of residence in Ireland.

No - most likely child will get a Stamp 2A, which isn't going to be counted for citizenship. You also have to remember mother cannot use public funds.

Stamp 2/2A won't be counted as reckonable residence for OP's friend.

If the minor was born in the State after 1 January 2005, and was not entitled to Irish citizenship at the time of birth, but has since accumulated 5 years’ reckonable residence
