Switching Job during ILR application (10 Years Long Residence Route)

I am a silent but very frequent visitor of this very useful forum for last 12 or so years. Always helpful
Can not find answer to this hence posting.....
My friend was on a Tier-2 visa, applied for Set-ILR (10-year route) in January 2020. Unfortunately, their application has been put on hold by the Home Office due to an ongoing police investigation. It has now been a staggering 30 months and the application is still on hold!
In the meantime, can my friend work for any employer, or are they restricted to the employer who sponsored their Tier-2 visa? (Mind you he applied on the basis of 10 Years Long Residence Route)

just to add further to my query;

Job redundancy - will this effect the outcome of their ILR application(10 year) in this case.

Mind you when they applied 10 year ILR they were on tier 2 visa.

At the time of 10 year ILR application, they had ( 6 years student visa + 4 years Tier2)

Just want to get clarification, that if he gets redundant from the company which sponsored him for Tier2 visa. And he does not start a new job with new employer until he gets decision on his ILR application.

As others have also pointed out, the ILR requirements for the visa route you are currently on do not matter. You must satisfy the ILR requirements under the long residence rules. It is all about having 10 years of continuous and lawful residence. There is no income or employment requirement to satisfy and the ILR requirements under skilled worker route do not apply at all
