Overstayed in the UK over 20 years ago

Post by poppy350 » Sat Aug 19, 2023 1:41 pm

Hi everyone, hope all are well.
I was wondering if overstayed in the UK for around 7 months over 20 years ago affects my Irish naturalisation? I left on my free will but there was no departure stamp on that old passport. Should I disclose it on the application? If I tick yes to 11.1, and give details on the additional details section. Do I still need to provide anymore document? I don’t remember the exact date I left because there was no departure date on the passport. What should I write on the additional details section? That I regretted it and I am a changed person?

Please give advice. Thank you.

Since it's been so long, I would not expect it to affect you; nevertheless, mention it when asked (as there will be some sort of a digital record of this in HO systems, most likely) and elaborate that it was somethign you regret and last 20+ years, including these years in Ireland, were all legal.

I'm also unsure if it's 11.1 or 11.11 to tick; 11.1 is more harsh, but, as mentioned, due to the fact it was ages ago, no effect.

Thank you very much for your reply.

I personally don’t think this is necessary to be mentioned at all. There is no way it correlates with your naturalisation at all
