Stamp 6 - Do I need to apply for it after Irish naturalisation?

Post by vanderjunior » Wed Aug 23, 2023 12:52 pm

Do I need a stamp 6 on my non-Irish passport after naturalisation?

I was browsing irishimmigration.ie and I found the below page saying that I would need a stamp 6 on my non-Irish passport if I keep dual citizenship.

https://www.irishimmigration.ie/my-situ ... pplication

Any thoughts?

Some previous discussion on this, including a link within this thread to an earlier conversation:

I believe it is a pretty niche need. My understanding is that most dual nationals won't need it.

There's no requirement to get it and it's, basically, useless (you won't get on a plane to Ireland with just a stamp, for example). I would not say it's worth applying for.

It’s only useful if:
- your other country allows for dual citizenship as well, AND
- you don’t need a visa when travelling to Ireland using the other passport, AND
- the other country requires you to use that country’s passport to enter and leave the country, AND
- the other country requires a formal immigration clearance when you leave that country (I.E. knowing where you are going, and checking whether you have permission to go to that country).

I don’t know if there is any country that requires all of the above.
